Breiðdalur (Broad valley) is the largest valley and contains the greatest farmland of all the valleys near the eastern fjords.  The mountains surrounding Breiðdalur rise to a height of 1,100-1,200 meters.  There are spectacular peaks and cliffs, particularly on the valley´s southern side.

The ring road which circles Iceland passes by them before ascending Breiðdalsheiði pass to Fljótsdalshérað district.

Breiðdalsvík is both the name of the village and the cove it is situated on. The spit of land between Breiðdalur and Berufjörður provides pleasant treks for the whole family, among ruins of huts and large boulders with nooks and crannies. A road leads down to the lighthouse.

Jórvíkurskógur (York forest) is a splendid recreational are for the whole family.
