Bolungarvík
Here you get a glimpse of Bolungarvík on the World Wide Web, and later more about it´s nature and history, which will hopefully raise your interest enough to come and visit us.
Bolungarvík has a long and interesting history, being one of the oldest fishing towns in Iceland, and one of the few mentioned in the Sagas. For centuries it was the greatest fishery town in the West Fjords and at the turn of the last century, the greatest in Iceland. We are proud of our town´s history and you can witness a part of it by visiting the Ósvör, an old restored fisherman´s camp. It stands in a place that has served as a fishing center since time immemorial and shows how people here lived for centuries, with it´s landing-place for small boats on the rocky shore and the insides of the huts remaining the way they always have been.
Bolungarvík today is a fisherman´s town, but service is a growing industry and we offer our people good facilities, which you the visitor can also enjoy. For instance, here you can find good accommodation, a swimming pool, golf course and hiking trips amongst other attractions. From Bolungarvík there are many hiking routes, long and short, for you to discover a wild land of peace and quiet and natural beauty.
We wish you a pleasant journey and a good time in Bolungarvík .
